The limit line helps keep honest those who are trying to ride a frame that maybe is a couple sizes too small and they might be tempted to sneak the post up another centimeter or two. I've passed up a lot of bikes because, darn it, it was just too small. If I can't fit it with a regular Campy post, it's too small.* Yes I know about the top tube is all that matters thing, but don't buy into it.

* exceptions being roadside and dumpster finds but that's another list! ; )
