Greg Yarez put on another great bike swap this weekend. By 7 a.m. the streets were crammed with Herses and Singers, Confentes and Hetchins, original bivalent Super Corsas, and NOS Masis from the 50s.
Well not quite, but there are always the highlights: a very early (30s?) pair of his and hers 28" roadsters with enclosed chainguards, an original owner looking for $100-200 for his c.1970 Holdsworth, NOS Suntour by the crateload, pros selling high-mileage fatigue life experiments, screaming deals on useful but unsexy 80s production touring bikes, and best of all the mix of cyclephiliacs. I talked to a woman who started racing in 1947!
My modern stuff went fast, but noticed zero interest in the TA cranks and old logo Cinellis, and grumbles at my $5 price for the Huret Duopar. A couple very modest acquisitions, but I should have bought the Holdsworth.
Confirmed CR-lister sightings included Sterling Peters, who was ready for the intense sun with full long-sleeves and lifeguard hat. Nearly ready, that is, as he sustained badly sunburned hands. Anyway, it was good to see ya, fair-skinned amigo!
Many many thanks to Greg. This event's quickly becoming our twice-a-year bike festival!
