FWIW, I have a 1973 Raleigh Pro, all original as far as I can tell. It has the 1037 A <C> Campy SL pedals....

This would have been in the early 70's, but I don't have an exact date. I think the earliest SL pedals were from 1968 or so and I have heard that the older ones have smaller lettering stamped on the cage. I do have one set that has smaller lettering, but my set with "1037A" on the body has large lettering. This sorta undid my theory that the SL pedals with stamped bodies are the earliest SLs. I also had a theory that the 1037A was added in 1975 (or so) when the SR pedal came out, so the two could be easily distinguished. Not that the Ti spindle looks like the steel... Anyway, the consensus was that my theories were not correct. The stamped bodies were a special concession to an OE customer. Other pedals of the same vintage had no stamp on the body.

I was led to believe this one is from the late 1940's and judging by componentry: FB 3-piece LF hubs, Simplex TdF shifters, Ambrosio stem stamped 1948, 4-speed Regina freewheel.... sounds plausible. The curious thing about this bike is a triangular emboss in the leftside chainstay just behind where the stay enters the bottom bracket shell. Embossed inside the triangle outline is a butterfly (or perhaps a wasp?). Is this a tubing mark, or perhaps a builders mark?

Campy Gran Sport derailleurs, and Universal 61 sidepulls with NITOR Plastic saddle and steel seatpost to fit the unique NITOR rails. Both bikes have oiler fittings in the bottom bracket as well as in the headtube. Based on the serial #s, any idea on age of these old steeds?
