The Harden hub has a fitting that works with the same grease gun used for contemporary British motorcycles. I haven't tried Zerk gun. It clearly was designed for grease gun use. To me, one of the fun things about bikes has been watching the repeated reinvention of the wheel - in some cases rather literally. The Data Book gives lots of other examples.
