I took a Bertin 531 frame apart and was appalled to see that it was so badly mitered that the mild steel lug was pressed into providing structure (it can't, it's made of comparative peanut butter). Practically speaking, if the miter is perfect and the joint is properly full of brazing material, it is rigid and won't flex. Adding braze to the outside probably adds something in terms of strength but I'm not sure it's measurable. Anyone else's thoughts?
