Hi all:

Last year I bought a used book written by Nancy Neiman Baranet, titled appropriately "Bicycling - The Bicycle in Recreation, Competition, Transportation". On the inside of the front cover flap it is mentioned that Nancy "...won the National Championship in bicycle racing in 1953, '54, '56, and '57,...". On the back cover it is mentioned that she also "...placed second twice, and third once.", and that "...she tied the existing World Record in 1956 for 200 meters." She was also "Director of the Amateur Bicycle League of America since 1956." However, it doesn't say when her directorship came to an end.

The copyright date is 1973. On page 114 there is a photo of "Olympic Coach Gene Portuese" flanked by "1959 National Champion Joanne Speckin (Klein); and Nancy Neiman. It's a wonderful book with lots of photo's of earlier days of American bicycle racing, as well as info. on just about any other thing one could do with bicycles and friends.

Nancy was also the author of "The Turned Down Bar", "Women's Wrap," and "Have Bike, Why Struggle". I wouldn't mind finding any of her other books either.

No, my copy of the book is not for sale.

Just thought I would share a little more about another great American cyclist.
