Well I sure did give the impression I meant most or all racers there, didn't I? A stupid thing to say, very regrettable verbiage and I apologize, not just to racers and athletes, but to all of you who winced when you read that.

I really just meant that I had run into enough wrong-headed ideas to know not to take a racer's word for something just because they were a good racer.

I also should stress that there's nothing wrong with being ignorant - we all are infinitely ignorant, given the immensity of all there is to know. Even in this little field of endeavor, I am infinitely ignorant, sometimes just a bit less than the next guy.

I liked and respected my customers when I was in the bike business, I just didn't expect them to be fonts of wisdom with respect to bikes and riding. Still learned a lot from them anyway.

But if someone who was a cat 2 told me something I thought was wrong, I wouldn't change my opinion just because he was a cat 2 and I was a cat 3. You don't have to take a test to get there, you just have to pedal hard!
