Subject: [CR]zeus questions

Listees,

Ok, Here's a question to the group. Not long ago there was a zeus question and I provided a great deal of old posts and other info I have compiled over the years on this list. But one question remains. I have seen many a zeus crankset pass between my fingers and I believe every single one differed in some way. How does one tell a 2000 zeus crankset from their other types? The only crankset info I have is a snippet from someone's email long ago. snip From grubbing through magazines and catalogs it appears that the 2000 crankset wasn't on offer until late '75. I have some cranks with milled thru-slots which are from '76 (marked with a 'g' on the inner arm). But by '77 the not-all-the-way-thru version was in production -- so there's a scant 1-year time frame for these puppies unsnip Now the cranksets I have seen are as follows. 1. One long milled area, same depth. 2. Two seperate milled areas, same depth 3. Two seperate milled areas, that appeared to be two seperate depths. 4. One without any milling at all 5. never saw milled completely through.

These questions all arise as I was sorting through my excess rings and I had a question from someon asking if the chainring was a 2000 or not?? How does one tell? I didn't know there was any striking difference and I guess I should considering I have about a dozen of them. I am going to look through them today and see but another question came up regarding the logo stampings on the rings. I was asked if it was the old globe stamp or the new zeus? I have identified two seperate stampings, which is older? The one with the zeus globe and another with a Z like markeing the the words Zeus and made in spain. The latter was found on the drilled out chainrings that I have on my bike. Was there another type? It just left me with many questions and I was hoping the group could answer some. It is a hard company to follow because of the turbulent history and Even though they were around since the mid 20s, they were unable to devote the time to quality bicycle components til the 70s. Any info on these would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
