Note well: Just last week I tried, without success, to fit a Campagnolo Record Triple bb from the 70s into a Rivendell with a 130mm rear spacing. Even with a 2mm or so spacer I could not get the crank far enough from the stay to clear it, and when I put a bigger spacer in, the adjustable cup went in too far, no room for a lockring.

The bb spindle on this triple is well-offset, but only 117mm total length. All the finessing in the world wasn't going to make it fit a 130 rear triangle. I might have been able to get it to work with a 126mm rear--but it clearly was designed for 120mm spaced stays and nothing else.

I considered using a thick adjustable cup, and a thicker spacer under the fixed cup, until I realized that with a spacer thick enough to provide sufficient clearance the spindle would be offset too far and the left crank-arm would not tighten down on it....I ended up ordering a Phil bb from Rivendell (ouch! expensive)...

I'm wondering if Campagnolo ever made the older style Record spindle longer than 117mm? Did they? All one would need is a spindle with the wider shoulders (for the thin cups), that was about 5mm longer on the drive side, and that'd work fine.
