Quite the opposite Tom, check the archives and a year ago you'll witness me getting raked over the coals for calling the great builders craftsmen and not artists. As someone who has made all kinds of stuff with his hands in a variety of mediums. Herse, De Rosa, Sachs and all the top builders could most likely make anything else they wished. When I took metalsmithing classes I made small hinged boxes since I thought they were totally different than bikes. I believe making boxes would only make my frames better when I go around to building them.. I've also made chairs and cabinets, poured concrete, and built my own computers. I think Bill Hurlow or Glenn Erickson could build the table or chair of your choice given the materials. Brian Baylis has talked on this list about building his own drum kit. The only thing that makes these people any different from other craftspeople is their craft is bicycles.
