Hi Brien. Three Bob Jacksons!!! Hi all. I am new to the list. Been watching this page and enjoying the back and forth for about a week now. Learning a lot. I, too, have a Bob Jackson. I have been commuting on it, year round, for the last 22 years, to and from my north-side neighborhood of Rogers Park, up and down the lakefront bike path (very beautiful), to downtown Chicago, or, as we say, the “Loop” - it’s about a 25 mile round trip. The Bob Jackson has the best ride of any bike that I have ever been on. It’s just as good in four inches of fresh lake-effect snow as on the now piping hot pavement. I ride sew ups, or "tubulars" as the folks on this page call them (you see, I sew them up after I get a flat and patch them). Before the Bob Jackson, I used to ride a Falcon up and down the Berkeley Hills, but that bike was stolen from the bike rack it was locked to inside Boalt Hall on July 4, 1980. Oh well. I bought the Jackson from a guy who built frames in his shop in Rogers Park, on Clark Street, right off North Shore and Albion Streets, back in 1981. I wanted to buy one of his frames, which all had a fairly unique design, but didn’t have the $1,200 he was asking so, instead, he sold me the Jackson, used, for $400. (I don’t remember his name, I think the shop was called North-side Cyclery, but am not sure. He, by the way, was mugged, hurt badly in the process, and stopped building frames. Rogers Park used to be a pretty dicey place but has since gentrified. I couldn't afford to buy my own house these days. Somewhat sad on both counts.) Now to the point, I was wondering how I could tell how old my bike is and, exactly, what kind of Jackson it is. Can you, or anyone reading, help me with this?
