On a similar note,
When I visited the rene Herse shop in 1983 they had 5 bikes on display-none for sale just samples. The one racer on display was reported to be 17 lbs built with Campag NR(as I recall but-it was in the catalog if Jan has one) and a lugless silver brazed Reynolds 753 frame.
And to Greg's credit at 24 spokes, he has over twice as many as some folks these days!
Weight doesn't matter all that much except in wheels and even then for many applications it is somewhat moot; but it is the easiest measure and most tangible thing about most bikes for comparison. Ride is many times in the eye of the beholder(rider).

I love it these days when someone starts talking about any particular "lightweight" TIG'ed or glued wonderbike that costs thousands and thousands of dollars.
I roll out my 23-year old Raleigh 753 Team Pro with Super Record parts. With an OMAS Ti BB, 24-spoke 280-gram tubular rims, and OMAS bolts here and there, it weighs 18 pounds in a 60cm size. Hee hee.......... And it only cost a nickel back then!
