One more thing. I did have to make the spacer at the back of the front derailleur narrower. Actually, I ended up using two presta valve nuts as spacers. I did have to "futz" with the adjustment, alignment and cage profile to get it to work correctly. I found that the Regina Record chain (with drilled side plates) was too flexable to work. I ended up using a new Sedis 9 speed chain and wow, does it work great! I know, not quite period correct, but I ride the bike, not worship it. Even today, with modern front derailleurs, I still have to bend the cages around on front derailleurs and "futz" with them to get them adjusted as close to perfect as I can.
