Subject: [CR]Campagnolo NR/SR Resource List

Tom Dalton wrote (in part):
>>>Since we have had so many threads on the history of the GS, R, SL, NR post, the R, SL, SR pedals, the whole hub naming issue etc, I wonder if we shouldn't have a resource that is organized in a totally different way. Rather than a chronological summary of changes to the products, it could be arranged by component. It might include the dates of introduction, the diffence from one part to another, etc.....I'd like to just his the highlights. You know, the info that is on the timeline, and maybe a few other things, but arranged so you can just go to "hubs" and find out what changed through time, and approximately when the changes ocurred.<<<<

I think this is a great idea [especially if Tom's willing to do it ;)] As e-richie points out, list members "vote" with the subject, and this subject comes back around on a regular basis (as do quite a few others). Establishing resources that new list members can be directed to (and others already know to go to), has value for all of us. That's one of the great things about this list. Collectively, the members of this list posses a vast knowledge base on a wide variety of related subjects, comprehensive stashes of information (printed and other) and first-hand "expert" understanding of most all things "bicycle", both classic and otherwise. Not only that, there have already been significant contributions is establishing information resources that are a great benefit to the CR community. The Campagnolo Timeline, catalog/brochure scans, reprints, and the Used Bike Buyers Guide are just some of the things that come to mind. This is community-concept at it's best. Compiling/sharing information for the benefit of the collective community.

As for what any Campy NR/SR/etc. resource list should be (yes, I will still use Campy, because it's been around and in general use at least as long as since I've known what Campy was), I don't think it should try and set a standard or be used to "police" usage of the terms. Also, I would just caution about getting too carried away with the minutia, and promote sticking the basics. That said, there is a certain fascination with identifying the changes and variations among and between Campy's components. It's fun and challenging, and there's always something to learn. I was even one-up on the estimable Chuck Schmidt on identifying a Victory vs. SR brake lever (with no hood cover) at the Cirque a couple years back. That's not something that's likely to happen again, but in that case, the difference was one of those details that had stuck in my head. I'd love to see all that stuff in a collection of information some place!

So Tom, even though I'm not even close to being as knowledgeable as you and some other listees, I'd be happy to contribute and help with the "resource".

Oh, and one other thing to those of you who are still reading. (my pet peeve) PLEASE, PLEASE change the subject line in your postings to reflect what the post is REALLY about!!
