Easy call. June 23, 2001. Cherohala Challenge put on by the Smokey Mountain Wheelman. 115 miles with over 9,000 total feet of climbing, and I'm a flatlander! I was feeling really good through the first 85 miles & then the real climbing started. We covered the 50 mile stretch of road that is the Cherohala Skyway, linking North Carolina & Tennessee. Just gorgeous! The reward was the last 20 miles or so of fast downhill sections - I hit 50+ for the first time in my cycling career. Yup, 47 years old and I went faster than my age. And the Sachs just ate it all up! I can't wait to go back. Richard Rose (Toledo, Ohio) flat, flat & more flat
