With the 11-ball retainers you already have the maximum number of balls, so there is no significant benefit to ditching the clip. With cheap 9-ball retainers, I recommend replacing them with 11-ball retainers or going loose. (I've actually seen 7-ball retainers for normal BB-s. Now that's cheesy.)
