Hi Brian Your clarification raises an interesting point. The misunderstanding about using a scrap of head tube is not as far fetched as it appears. Although I used VAR cutters to miter top and down tubes, I have seen offcuts of 753 with teeth filed on them like a hole saw used for this purpose. 753 being so hard, they would effectively cut 531 and other normal quality tubing, and of course were very cheap.
