Dave opined:

"I disagree that the decals are "stick-on, vinyl graphics". Like the Eba= y=20 seller's assertions, I can think of no way that anyone can determine that=20 decals are vinyl stick-ons over the Internet, let alone being separated by=20 thousands of miles."

Sorry, Dave, I think you are mistaken here. I looked very carefully at those pictures, and those are vinyl sticker decals. I'd bet on it. And the vintage of the frame supports this, quite aside from my own observation. Frames badged Pogliaghi from that time seem to have had vinyl sticker graphics, like many other italian production bikes did then. Colnago, Olmo, Pogliaghi, Rossin...the list is long. I sure they did it for reasons of economy, but the result is crude and cheap-looking, imho.

Look carefully at those pics and I think you'll agree with me.

Trying to define a *real* Pogliaghi from the mid/late 70s is probably just a waste of time. As you point out, Sante had others building for him by that time. The exact date of transfer to Rossin seems murky...and some older style details continued even after the transfer occured.

I'd be interested in any Pogliaghi up to about 1976. After that, they're a bore. Although they might be fine riders...that low bb shell was retained well into the late 70s, it seems. The frames were more upright, with shorter wheelbases however, in line with fashion of the time.

By the mid/late 70s, the chrome, the alterations in the graphics, the braze-ons, the fully sloping crowns, all signal the end of the line, to me.

One tip, relayed to me by Jim Cunningham: frames with the headbadge that indicates *28 Victories* are probably legit...badges that indicate 29 or more victories (world championship or olympic victories I believe--probably all on track frames..someone clarify this for me), are questionable in terms of who built them, or who supervised their building...I can't remember now but something like *32 Victories* was the highest listed, after that, the headbadge graphic was changed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....of course, more recent frames could have been decorated with earlier headbadges...I doubt there was much rigor in that process. So the headbadge graphic is suggestive only; dating would have to be established by construction details and the serial number.

PS: below is a proposed time-line associating Pogliaghi serial numbers with years...this is very rough, and almost certainly wrong, but I post it to solicit comment. If you can associate any Pogliaghi serial number with a year with some certainty, post me provately and I'll start to assemble a serial number list that might be something like accurate. The numbers stamped on the frames up through 1980 do appear to be chronologically sequencial, if that's a correct way to state it.

Production increased by the mid 70s...with two or three workers in the shop prior to that time, I'm suggesting 300 frames a year, give or take some, up to about 1973...after that, according to some info in The Custom Bicycle production increased significantly...help me make this accurate, it'd be a nice resource for us Pogi lovers..
