I read the Ebay posting and I agree with Nelson, Karsten has a wonderful collection and a great website at http://www.cyclo-24.de. The rare collectibles he offers on ebay appear to be first quality and honestly portrayed. However I am a little uncomfortable with the undocumented claim that Sante Pogliaghi himself built this particular bike, it reminds me of nothing so much as the questions from a new Masi owner (after buying the bike on Ebay) "how can I be sure that Mario built this particular bike?".

How collectible the Pogliaghis are is a matter of some debate. I own a "real early" Pogliahghi, probably 1969 or 1970, refinished by Brian, and it is a great ride, straight as a die, with the wonderful low bottom bracket and short wheelbase "feel". I recently considered another Pogliaghi, somewhat later model, well into the super record timeframe - 78 or so - that was probably the best finished Italian bike I've EVER seen. It was a cut above - really fine work in evidence at the dropout ends, lug thinning, etc. Really a gem! I don't remember the serial number on that bike, sorry to say, but I have seen quite a number of late model pogliaghis floating around. In fact, today, when I parked my Serotta in the bike parking area in the basement of the Seattle Athletic Club, in the next slot was a Pogliaghi TRACK bike, silver and red with original decals, that had been converted to city bike configuration, flat handlebar and Shimano Nexus 7 speed rear hub. That bike had a serial number in the 12XXX range.

Group--- Considering the collection that Carsten has put together, and th= e amount of knoweledge that he seems to have, I would personally tread ex= tremely lightly on any criticism of his ebay listing. If indeed it is er= roneous, I am quite sure that this would not be a deliberate sales ploy o= n Carsten's behalf............. Cheers-- Nelson Miller-- Seattle
