Sheldon Brown actually has a few words about these bikes

I also remember hearing about them from people at the AYH
office/store in Manhattan and from Boston natives I met
at youth hostels - this was during the '60s. I never
actually saw one though and at the time considered them
to be something of an urban myth. (Please bear in mind
that I was just a teenager then and with that name - OTB,
that is - and the mysterious identity of the actual builder(s),
it was just too much for my limited perspective.)
Yet they're still pretty mysterious to me and I still
haven't seen one. But at least I'm meeting people who have
actually owned and ridden them.
