Didn't Lawee import Italvegas before Univega and then replace them with Univega due to quality, cost problems ? (Thought I read that somewhere once upon a time).

I owned a Univega frame. I was not the top of the line, but it was VERY NICE. It had the best 'road feel' of any frame I've ever been on.

I think road feel is an elusive quality which results from many factors that are impossible to understand, let alone control.

I'm just glad that I had a chance to ride it so that I can compare it to all others.

Now if I can just wrestle it away from my brother!

Ben Lawee's Univega line wasn't always the prettiest. But if you looked beneath the paint there was sold craftsmanship and value.
