Good points Tom (and everyone else in this thread...).

I'd just add a couple more:

This fellow on Craig's list advertised his parts as "mid-'80s," so they could well be laser-etched cranks, a no-date rear derailleur, late "script" calipers with white hoods, etc. This would make them even less valuable to most of us bikenuts.

Additionally, 50th groups sell at wildly varying prices. Like a factor of three to one high to low for NOS (used ones maybe only two to one from what I've seen). That one at $2500 NOS recently on eBay was the highest actual selling price I've seen (assuming the sole bidder actually bought the group at the end of the auction - who really knows with eBay?) Has anyone seen a higher transaction price for one in NOS condition?

NOS "classic" SR group prices seem to loosely track current new Record group prices for various reasons - I put one together a while ago that was 1984 IIRC, and the fellow spent about $1800 I think. We went with the script brakes, but dated '84 172.5 cranks and rear der.

American Cyclery offers those NOS Cinelli build kits that were mentioned here recently, and they charge $1095 f/f, $3850 complet S-Rec. bike IIRC, so that's $2755 for all the kit parts plus labor - figure maybe $2000 for the SR group?

New 50th groups trade right around that level (plus or minus) on eBay.....
