They might be more like 4th gen depending on how one counts the generations. 1st, slender cranks with chrome caps on the backs of the pedal holes. 2nd, slender but no caps, but with the raised area around the pedal hole 3rd, "chunky" arms, still with the raised pedal area (I have a set of these) 4th, chunky arms, no raised pedal area, the cranks in the pics above.

I have never seen the ones I called 2nd generation, only heard rumors - do they really exist?
