Colin Chapman believed in simplicity. And in weight saving. My elderly mid-engined AC will swallow my mid-sixties Claud Butler.... wheels on the passenger seat held with the safety belt and the rest of the bike in the boot. Thus I save the weight, complication and expense of a carrier. (The fixed gear on the bike makes it even lighter!
And does anyone remember the photo of Phil Hill on a bike with a huge chainwheel and a tiny sprocket? I just tried to find it in Jenks and Taruffi without success. The photo must be in my bookcase somewhere. Was Phil Hill a cyclist? If he was, is that the secret of his eternal youth? Stuart Tallack on the Sussex coast due to disappear when the sea level rises.
