I'd say the reason is that the high quality, limited production Japanese frame is imported in small quantities. 3 Rensho, Zunnow and Nagasawa were around SoCal. There was a Nagasawa in Ted Ernst's shop in Manhattan Beach in the early mid 1980s. One look was all that was needed to tell everything you needed to know about Nagasawa.

Not enough people own these bikes to create any kind of real discourse (plus e-RICHIE was withholding vital info from us because of a lack of basic typing skills apparently ;)

My opinion: Italian sense of style/design is always going to trump Japanese style/design... or English or American or German or whatever... Doesn't mean however that I'm not looking for pro bikes from all these other countries just the same.
