that certainly looks like a 1st generation maxi to me... ive seen
only one other hub with blue instead of red dustcaps (image at

its definitely a pre-1947/48 hub. what i cant decide is whether its a maxi, or a maxi-car. the orientation of the pinholes on the dustcaps is at 12/3/6/9 o'clock, where the pinholes on maxi-cars of the same era (at least the ones ive seen) are at 2/4/8/10 o'clock
i *think* early maxi-cars are engraved "maxi-car" - its my theory that sometime shortly after ww2, maxi (which made hubsets and drum brake hubs) and c.a.r. (which made hubs) merged in some form, and became maxi-car. thats the theory, at least, and im looking for confirmation...
