Prior to the current generation Record cranks, did Campy make alloy chainring bolts? I ask because I found a mangled alloy chainring bolt among some small parts I bought at T-town. It was actually inside a Campy pump head! Anyway, it is marked "Patent." Campy may have switched back to "Patent" for the new alloy bolts, but if not, imagine the implications for Campy nerds everywhere! Could it be that there was a short-lived (in multiple senses) alloy chainring bolt on the early SR crank? The bolt in question looks exactly like a steel Campy bolt, but it is definitely alloy. I think the current alloy bolts have thicker walls and longer threads than the standard steel bolts. The bolt is stripped and mangled, which might explain why they weren't made in large numbers.

My guesstimate: 1979-80 , i.e. after the CPSC-mandated changes in mid-1977, and after the supply of 378,653 "Patent" ones ran out. I've got NOS 1978 cranks that are all "Patent" hardware, and NOS 1981 cranks that are all "Brev."
Anyone else have a SWAG or better?
