Hello everybody,

Many thanks to the many folks who contributed info on this project.

Conclusions: This bike is now dated as a 1969 model. The paint is original. It may have been sold outside the US, the UK most likely where this downtube cable stop was popular.

The front derailleur may have been and most likely was a Campagnolo Record with cable housing stop. Gran sport was second vote getter but less likely as it was most likely on a poor Raleigh Gran Sport when this Pro was produced.

Campagnolo Record's with cable stops are rare. Here is our current solution. Place a Campagnolo five speed downtube cable stop (Like used with one bar end shifter) on the seatube below the front changer. Run housing from stop to stop.

We just had another (later) White Elephant Raleigh Pro come in and it has the clamp on Campagnolo dual cable guide like later Pro's for reference.

Thank you very much all,

Gilbert Anderson

Hi Gilbert

Way behind on CR stuff. Not certain what you have going there. I've been around several white Pros and never seen one with a brazed on downtube cable stop. All had the Campy cable guide clamps and Record/NR(?) front ders. 1969 and into 70 were the only years I'm aware that white Pros were available in the US. What is the serial number on this one? D####? E####? Something else? Maybe the cable stop was added on at some point and the frame repainted?

Campy did make a Record/NR(?) front der with a cable housing stop in the casting. I have found these bikes from that period even with the Campy cable guide clamp. Just depended on what Raleigh had laying around that day.

Sorry I missed the C&O trip. Had to be somewhere else. Hope you didn't get poison ivy. Osborn
