"Ah he irony... Chuck will collect bikes with bars of any width and ride them, while I limit my collecting to bars, cranks, stems, etc. in "my size" and then I don't even really ride my older bikes. I like having my bikes set up "my way" so I only buy 40 to 42 cm bars, 172.5 or 175 cranks, and stems near the appropriate length (usually 120-130). For one thing, this keeps me from buying more stuff."

I used to have the 38mm (or so labeled) Cinelli Crit bars on my 83 Masi GC. That's the way it came when I bought it.Two listmembers in MD who saw it said it was appropriate cause it's A Gran Crit, but probably not original to the bike.(Later others mentioned that the Masi GC was not really a crit bike anyway-just a name)

Now I have short arms (32" sleeve is perfect), narrow shoulders,(I don't look like Joe Bonomo) and they said the crit bars, while narrow, were also a different bend.(Well I didn't know anything then. Now I know a tiny bit) Liking the way they looked, but knowing I was not comfortable, I was relunctant to give the Cinellis up. But after being encouraged by other members , I switched to the 41cm Nitto "Noodle" (available from Rivendell only)and 80 cm stem (remember I also had to go from 26.4 Cinelli to the now standard 26.0 diameter) I was better. Not sure if the "noodle" bend is used on other bar makes (Maybe its a modified Maes bend)

I know that I posted about this maybe six months ago.And I know some people can get real comfortable on a wide variety of bars with the right stem. But if you can't you can't. So I wanted to remind members that if you want to maintain that classic look, but your 38mm Cinellis or whatevers just don't feel right, give that 41cm Nitto Noodle from Rivendell a try.I have been using them a while now.It really is just like they described it-Comfortable while maintaining that classic look.

(Now when I find out what those unlabeled Cogs are (maybe Regina)I can repace the biggest two and climb real hills)
