The evils of Deltas are over-rated. They were heavy, expensive, fussy, and restricted tire size choices. However, contrary to what some folks maintain, they were not unable to do the job of controlling speed and stopping the bike, at least not after five years and four generations. The big problem is that most mechanics are not good at their craft and most bike racers are especially poor mechanics. Deltas can be made to work quite well, without resorting to aftermarket pad and cables and better still by doing so. Sadly, by the time they were really well sorted out Shimano had far better products available, products that Campy copied in order to get back in the race. Agreed, deltas are a metaphor for the era when Campy lost it's way and fell way behind. Unlike the SGR pedal, the areo bottle, the Electa saddle, the Euclid group, Syncro 1.... they were a useful product. Of course a set of Cobaltos weighed less, cost less, set up in 25% of the time and stopped just as well. It is interesting though that in many pro teams in the late 80's, some guys used Cobaltos and some used Deltas, suggesting that preferences varied. IMHO the hip ticket to stardom was the C-record power grade lever and the Cobalto caliper, a la Mig. Tom Dalton

This has all the elements of great CR banter. It's Campy, it's rare, it may be very rare... there's the who E-bay variable and the seller even mentioned our Ritchie by name. What's up Ritchie? DO you really have another 33% of the global supply? Is this really a proto, or is it just the very rare first gen production model. Looks like photos I've seen of the G-1 production and pretty similar the second-gen ones I've seen in the flesh, though different in a million ways. Very nice finish for a prototype. Back to check the Campy-Only links.
