"I want to use the BJ as a multipurpose bike and rest the Raleigh until those nice summer months return. Consequently, I want to put fenders on the BJ (it has eyelets) and slightly larger tyres. Three questions:
1) Can I have some recommendations please on what fenders are out there - I don't suppose the Bluemel's Club Specials are easily found now - what is a good modern alternative?
2) Also where may I source TA bottle cages or equivalents?
3) What chains are a good alternative to the Sedisport which I have always used (are Sedis chains still available)?"
my response....... I don't claim to have the definitive answers, but here's my shot at these questions: 1. While not particularly classic in appearance, the modern SKS (formerly Esge) fenders are pretty nice. The stays are similar in design to the old Bluemels, but made of stainless steel. The fenders themselves are well made and reliable.
2. Check with BC at Renaissance Cycles (info@renaissance-cycles.com). He thought he might have found a small stash in Europe. Otherwise, a few have shown up on ebay lately (I think Hilary Stone has one for auction right now). Just search for "TA".
3. The Sedis design has evolved and gone through a few name changes and owners. The name is now SRAM, and their basic 8 speed chain works fine on my 6 speed friction shifting bikes.
good luck,
