"Frankly, the first generation DuraAce shifts a whole bunch nicer than the same vintage super record. Is Mojo loving something despite its characteristics?"
Harvey "grumpy tonight" Sachs
There is a reason that I personally go gaga over Campy. I have sparkling new Record 10 on my racer and yet when I see an oxidized grimy NR or SR derailleur I get all weak in the knees. I am an artist, not by manifesto but by trade, and I appreciate the beauty in the vintage craftsmanship. Sure the Dura Ace might function better but it is not nearly as nice to look at. The same thing for finely sculpted lugs, they might not hold any better but they show that the artist really cared about taking the craft of construction to the next level. This is why I enjoy vintage bikes. Those little artistic details that show that the creators really thought they were making something more than a simple functional part, a mere bicycle. They were artists.
