I would definitely agree that Suntour made many wonderful components, of which the first generation Cyclone short-cage rear derailleur is my personal favorite, followed closely by either the Superbe / Superbe Pro stuff, or the later versions of the Winner Pro freewheel. I really wish they were still a player in the bike component business, as they definitely made some great (perhaps too great?) parts, and encouraged spirited competition.
I think Stevan may have been thinking specifically of early Dura-Ace when he commented earlier about durability / decay in shifting performance over time....
