Some of you all might have the answer to this. I was told that the Reynolds 631 was basically 531 that could be Tig wielded. If that is so then is there any difference in the tubing size? Had a road bike with that tubing that had a wonderful feel to it. And while we're on the subject, what will builders like Mercian sub for 531 as it seems that most of their frames are built with that tubing or has it not been annouced yet? They've been phasing it out but it still sucks. For a few years, 531 hasn't really been listed as an offering but it was regularly available as a special order. Rivendell almost exclusively uses 531 fork blades. I guess we'll be switching to 525. It's the chrome-moly equivalent so that's fine but still a piece of history is going away. Also since 531 is going away then so does 753 which is heat treated 531. We've been using this for years on Rivs. We have a stock pile of the stuff but when it's gone, that's it. One more piece of history gone. I guess I should stop whining and get out of the way of "progress."
