New to list . Need to write self-introduction .
Two thoughts :
1.) If you really can't stand the decals , at least take some clear photos , before that particular peice of history is gone forever . I have enjoyed documenting the layers of ownership , while bringing something back to a condition much closer to original . Remember , details that are only half as old as the original machine may be old enough in themselves to be interesting history .
2.) I've had great success with various forms of tape . Want to get really rough and tough ? Beyond duct-tape , there is the really thick box tape , and strapping tape ( with the fibers in it ) , and close to the ultimate , double-sided carpet tape . Even 3M Scotch brand tape has its high-tech qualities . Ready ? There is "Red-Label" - close to the old original stuff - sticks best to various anything - fairly thick & tough - great one to try for peeling things off . There is "Green-Label" - formulated for paper - medium sticky - thin & tricky to peel off . There is "Purple-Label" - usually available only at holiday time - "Satin Tape" for gift wrap - interesting - some easier to get back off than Green Label . There is "Yellow-Label" - beware! - double sided sticky - beware! - a very serious adhesive - this one will really take the paint off along with - - - like carpet tape - plays rough . And of course , there is "Blue-Label" - this uses the adhesive from "sticky-notes" - Blue Label is our gentle friend - start here with this one - this one plays nice .
