Now I'm a bit puzzled at the manner in which Reynolds decals were distributed. At one point, framebuilders (at least the few who were friends of mine) were convinced that they had to be careful not to allow the unauthorized distribution of the Reynolds decals - e.g. to not allow a decal to leave the the shop except when affixed to a frame. For example, I once tried to get a decal for my tool box and all I could get was a spare 531 fork blade insignia. Also, they were loathe to place a 531 (or Columbus) decal on a frame unless it was made enrirely from that material. Was this needless paranoia? After all, based on Richard's comments - and others that have appeared here from time to time - it seems that Reynolds were often pretty cavalier about the whole situation. (Let's exclude the whole business of professional racing frames that are intentionally "mislabeled" for various reasons.) Regards, Fred Rednor - Arlington Virginia
