are you asking about the decal 'art' or are use asking about the differing tube combos? e-RICHIE

Richie:

First I'm making the statement that genuine Reynolds 531 stickers come in two flavors: with quotes and without quotes. Second I'm asking: is there any significance to this fact?

Can I conclude that if I see a sticker with quotes that the bike is from a specific vendor, or that the tubes were purchased in some different way, or that such a bike must have been constructed between certain dates? The 1974 ad happens to show 531 stickers with quotes in association with a boxed set of tubes for a single bike with a single set of stickers, as if it was to be purchased by a hobby builder (as opposed to the way a factory might buy tubes in bulk with a sackful of sticker sets).

Or is it just noise? I hear that Hetchins and Hetchin's are held in equal esteem.

It just so happens that none of the bikes that have passed through my hands have had the quotes, and I'm curious about them.

Man got to ask himself: why, why, why?
