As I recall the last time this derailleur (or one like it) was discussed here the consensus was that it was in fact an early MTB mech, but I still wonder. I seem to recall the original Campagnolo MTB gruppo, Euclid I believe, had a more modern-type mech without the NR-SR style lower pivot casting. Of course relying on memory can be trachorous- particularly mine- so I am sure I have an original ad for the Euclid gruppo as it was introduced in one of my old cycling mags and will check if it will help resolve the issue.
