René Herse also used Radios (see http://www.mindspring.com/~heine/bikesite/bikesite/samples.html), yet those don't command the same prices at all. Maybe it is an endorsement somewhere by Rebour saying that the JOS were the lightest lights - as if the others were heavy. Personally, I think the Radios logo is the coolest, and the lights are prettier, too. The feature of the JOS that allows you to pull off the light from its base (it has a little ball-shaped spring-loaded tab that works like those balls that hold a socket on a ratchet) is very neat. Some others, Cibié most notably, require a screw driver to disassemble and replace a bulb.

Most likely, it is fashion pure and simple. It seems that the Japanese have certain must-have items, and others just aren't as desirable. Just like my friend (not from Japan, but from Europe), who asked me "Which is the best bicycle?" I hope listmembers won't see this as an invitation to explore that never-ending topic!

IN ITALY, THE LIGHTSET TO HAVE ARE RADIUS. THEY EFFECTIVELY DO OFFER BETTER ILLUMINATION AT LOW SPEEDS. IT IS WIDELY CLAIMED BY OLDER ITALIANS THAT TO SEE TWO CYCLISTS WALKNG THEIR BIKES SIDE BY SIDE AT NIGHT WITH RADIUS HEADLIGHTS GIVES THE IMPRESSION OF A CAR APPROACHING.
