Greetings,

Let's we play solve the mystery bike. Has anyone seen this kind of Soviet race machine? http://www.bikecult.com/works/collections/maxouhR.html

Maker: UTKb Velo Model: Maxuoh cynep cnepm Serial number 58.

This one found at Recycle-A-Bicycle in NYC. It has its Soviet-made headset, bars, stem, brakes, shifters, derailleurs, and seatpost. It is missing its bb, cranks, pedals, wheels.

The frame has Columbus tube decal, its lugs appear stamped. Italian thread bb shell with 72mm width (now shaved to 70mm) and a massive cut-out, like a Windsor Pro, one large hole inside eight small holes. Seat stay cluster has pressed-in tube treatment.

The fork is chromed, semi-sloping crown, recessed brake mount, fork end has not-so-tapered tube, uncommon after 1950s.

Most components have no markings or lost them. Many are styled like other European classic parts. Stamped mark on aluminum handlebar in cyrillic script. Forged logo on downtube shifters is same as headbadge.

Stem has internal bar-clamp wedge. Brakes are side-pull calipers, with QR lever and 4mm cable housing. Aluminum headset has cartridge bearings. Rear derailleur has dual pivot springs and straight parallelogram, made of anodized CNC'd aluminum. Seatpost has top-bolt clamp.

Maybe the name Maxuoh is a wave of the hand. I've tried a couple translators, a couple Soviet cycling books, and so far little luck.
