Hey all,

I believe that those lugs, used on the Mark Reily neo-Gillotts are 'Long Shen 302s' from Japan? They have the same little Fleur-de-lis designs. Grant Peterson wrote about those lugs in Rivendell Reader # 25. They are good looking lugs. They are sand cast and they's been around for several years. There is a Tsakanikas bicycle from Dallas, Texas built with them shown in the Feb '97 " Bicycle Guide". That bike, made by David Cheakas, looks almost identical to the Reily Gillott. They both have straight forks. Jim Cunningham of Cycle Art told me in ' 96 that he was thinking about selling a line of classic steel bicycles usuing the Long Shen 302s. I think he even had a prototype at his shop (?).

In my opionion, the Reily Gillotts are very attractive bicycles, but they don't look like Gillots, and I don't think they even look very English! At least the lugwork and curly stay design of modern Hetchins look similar to the bikes from the '50s & '60s.

I don't want to promote the Reily bikes, but frame builder, Doug Fattic, wrote me:

"I saw the work done by the guys at Omega at Interbike last year. It looked pretty nice."

Off like a flock of turtles,
