Oh CR folk,
A combination of a Mercian frameset order followed by an unexpected (and unexpectedly large!) vet bill puts this on the market -
Falcon San Remo frameset, 58cm c-t, 56.5cm c-c. Top tube is 57cm, c-c. Campagnolo 1010 long rear dropouts with fender eyelets, 120mm rear spacing; front dropouts unmarked forged, no eyelets. Semi-sloping fork crown with stiffeners on the inside faces. Long, pointed, plain, probably Prugnat lugs. Wraparound seatstay tops. I am assuming it is Reynolds 531 throughout, judging by the dropouts, but cannot swear to it.
The only decals remaining are on the chainstays - "Designed by Ernie Clements/San Remo." The glorious headbadge is still there, though the black enamel in the bottom part that says "designed by Ernie Clements" is almost all gone. An easy enough touch-up, right? No chrome; sort of an emerald green with lots of nicks and scrapes. A little rust in a couple of places, but nothing that feels badly pitted.
No dents; straight (at least it rides straight!) The only braze-on is a shift lever clamp-band stop on the downtube. With two Campagnolo top tube cable clamps and a probably shot Campy headset. Long, long brake-reach, as it was probably originally set up with Weinmann centerpulls and full Campy everywhere else.
Ray Etherton saw it when I got it at the '01 Cirque and said he thought it was from circa 1965-1970. Makes a great fixed-gear, but it's a tad small for me. Restore it or build it up as is and ride it. How about $75 plus shipping, or make me an interesting offer, or tell me gently if the price is way outa line ...
