Greetings,

It hurt to see that fancy-lug Raleigh Pro go. I love those bikes and they last a long time.

Unfortunately we had to waste its binder bolt, which had a stripped hex head, embedded in two-piece lug. While new owner Jose watched, my swiss watchmaker mechanic took an air grinder to split the bolt down the seam. Vise-grips wound other end out clean as a whistle.

I tried to find the perfect replacement bolt. I figured it could be metric, English, or Whitworth. Thanks to Peter Geurds, I know now it's the later. A 6mm bolt wound in OK. Before I could test it, Jose took the frame and said he's could find one. He also told me all about a bike, another 1971 MASI that is now in possesion of Richard Sachs.

The Professional frame came from a friend we call Russian Dave. He goes to swap meets and always has rare finds. But he's too young to be on this list.

cheers,
David Perry
