I got a job in a bike shop just after buying my PX-10 in 1968 so I could work on my own bike and had Campy barends mounted to the record derailleurs I'd installed. I remember those stainless coiled bar end housings with about a half inch fitting at one end. I think they were Campy, not sure though. I do remember throwing them out as being practically useless. There wasn't anything to hold grease in and at that time I ran them all the way up to the stem to make room for the handlebar bag. You had to have some grease in there to keep the derailleur shifting well. I just remember my replacement stuff was black, no liner and you could see the coiling through the plastic casing. Zoltan sold Gitanes and probably got the housing by the roll from Mel Pinto. There's original and then there's what works better.

Hello,
I wanted to ask what type of cable housing was used with bar-end shifters for a 60's era bike? I have a large coil of Campagnolo stainless steel derailleur cable housing, maybe 12 foot in length, that I guess may have been used for this purpose. It's the same as the housing used with the rear derailleur from the chainstay stop to the derailleur...no plastic liner or cover. After looking at many photos I still am not able to tell. Some use what appears to be brake cable housing and others use something very similar to the housing I have. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
