While hardly a classic, several years ago I decided to do a complete refurb of my Vitus 992, purchased new in 1992. Giro Poste in Toronto had a complete set of 992 decals listed on their web site, so I ordered a set and proceeded to strip off the old (cracked and faded) ones. When the new ones arrived it was clear Vitus had radically changed the decals.
I called Colorado Cyclist, where I had purchased the bike, and was told they did indeed have a couple of decal sets; but Vitus required that I supply a serial number before they would sell a set. I purchased these and decided that I should have at least a spare set in the event the new ones deteriorated like the originals did.
CC agreed to sell another set, but said they couldn't sell them on the same serial number I had just used. Fortunately I have a friend with the same bike, so I used his serial number. Turns out CC had one complete set and some odds and ends. They sold me their entire remaining stock of 992 decals which today reside in a file folder against the time they might be needed.
