I ran into this e-mail group while looking for information on my old Univega. Its not a sexy name or classic ride but a really tight steel frame that I love. I am curious to know which Japanese firm made the frame; the frame is a 1984 Competitione Chromoly made in Japan. Serial number under BB is M353370. Any leads would be very helpful. The closest I could find was a 1984 Super Special for sell on eBay its frame looks very similar to my 1980 Nouvo Sport, the fork on my Competione is much more refined (in my opinion, anyway).
I am also curious about where in the 1984 Univega line my model fits. Components are Sugino Aerox cranks, MKS Esquartz pedals, Araya 700c 1W double walled rims laced to Suntour Superbe Pro hubs, Suntour Superbe Pro front & rear derailleurs, cool Diacompe AGC aero style brakes / levers, seat post marked with an S logo and MIGHTY, headset is Tange Levin Alloy 66S. The rig weighs 21.5 pounds complete.

I just read my first digest for this group; my parents had old Raleighs that to me seemed very heavy. I was a big fan of the higher end Japanese imports I could not afford. In 1982 my dream bike was my second hand but nearly new Miyata with Suntour Cyclone stuff. My neighbor sold it to me for $50.00 and a summer of yard work. I wish Id kept track of it. I think it was a $400.00 bike when it was new in the mid 70s. Anyhow most of the posts are about rare European exotics so I hope this is not out of place!
