If ever find the time again (18+ miles each way, and I'm slow), I'll usually ride the old Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2 (ca 1978) a neighbor gave me. Mostly original when I got it, except wheels (can't see any markings but the skewers are Shimano). It had lots of miles so I replaced the worn-out big ring with a 49t Shimano from Rivendell, the wibbly-wobbly 600 rear derailleur with I-forget-what's-on-there-now, and upgraded the saddle to a Wrights W3ST I acquired down at the dump (very comfy it is too). I found some nice SunTour barcons at the dump so I put them on too, and later changed to moustache bars and went back to the dump for a shorter stem. Oh yeah and added Esge fenders but I had to buy those with real money.

It's kinda crusty but rides nicely, and looks vintage-touristy with a big old saddlebag hanging off the back of that Wrights. The bag has just enough room for work clothes, a towel, and etc.

If I lived closer I'd ride my Mercier fixed-gear conversion, too. Another dump rescue with parts from at least three bikes; it's fun to ride.

I do have couple of nice bikes but I wouldn't trust 'em to the bike rack.
