It may be possible to stick the steel axles in the SR pedals, but technically it is not the correct setup. The radius of the race on the steel spindle is larger and not compatible with the smaller bearings from the SR pedals... but given that the radius of the steel axle is more open than that on the Ti, perhaps they sub in without any real problems. I would be surprised if the spindle didn't sit deeper into the pedal due to the difference in the bearing size. With the BB, you have the same issue of different bearing sizes. The Ti BB's were 3/16" and nearly everything else was 1/4". Again, the steel spindle, with a more open race, may have worked with the SR cups and balls, but I suspect that the races on the steel spindle are set closer together, and the adjustable cup would thread deeper into the BB shell as a result. So now I'm confused. My recollection (perhaps a faulty one?) is that the SR spindles were too flexible and the trick was to simply replace them with NR spindles. But that sounds unlikely, based on the explanations that've been posted so far. Was it the BB spindle that people replaced with a NR piece? Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
