Oscar Juner (US 6-Day champ in 1936) once told me that Gian Robert designed the first Campagnolo parallelogram derailleur. This is not mentioned in "The Dancing Chain". Can anyone confirm this?
I have two Gian Roberts. One is a cheap and chearful steel NR clone, the other is a beautiful aluminum high-end changer. Every piece is a casting with Gian's name on it and the parallelogram has two springs. The matching front derailleur is so underdesigned that I don't dare use it. It's a box and plunger like a Gran Sport, but the plunger is only about 4mm in diameter and is spot welded to the back of the cage. One bad shift would tear it apart.
