Why not?

I haven't tried it but it should be possible to get a block of nylon or polyethylene, drill/countersink holes using stock modern cleats as a template, and then cut a kerf with a saw for a slot to engage the rear of the cage.

I'll probably need to do this someday with my Sidis if I can't find replacement cleats.
